ROMAC
Underground (TfL)

Underground (TfL)

There is nowhere within the LUL environment that Romac does not have approvals to work. Romac operatives carry general LUL entry permits and a variety of other LU required certification. Select employees carry substation entry permits.

Romac are veterans of several major rollouts on LUL dating back to the arrival of the prestige ticket vending equipment in the tickets halls, through “Project Connect” (wireless communications across the tunnel network) and most recently the signalling upgrade.

1. Romac can carry out all the pre-delivery services on behalf of the customer:
1.1. Access booking
1.2. Application for the movement license
1.3. Site survey (to establish the optimal delivery routing)
1.4. Method statement & supporting risk assessment
1.5. Romac is also accredited to manage pedestrian re-routing, parking bay suspension, lane suspension and full road closure systems, when station access is in a very built up area.

2. Once the survey is completed the Romac planners will establish the delivery requirement in terms of personnel, vehicle and handling equipment:
2.1. Personnel – Romac will provide a Site Person in Charge (SPC) and an approved installation team (all holding the required LUL permits) for each delivery.
2.1.1. This process will also establish if any specialist operators are required such as a Protection Master or Lifts & Escalator Operative. If required, the Romac planners will include these operators as part of the delivery team.
2.2. Vehicle – The entire Romac delivery fleet is specified to transport sensitive of high value equipment; using state of the art load locking devices and air ride suspension (as standard).
2.3. Handling equipment – Romac possesses plant approval for the full range of handling equipment to effect delivery to sub surface locations, including the in-house designed ‘escalator trolley’ which has plant approval to carry a Safe Working Load of 500 kilos for use on LUL escalators.

3. On the scheduled date and time the selected Romac team (as above) will deliver the equipment to site either during:
3.1. traffic hours (if a non operational location or during a station closure).
3.2. Engineering hours (the standard operating window on LUL).

4. Once on site the Romac team will handle the equipment to point-of-use specified in the site survey.

5. When in the station concourse or signal/computer equipment room, Romac can complete a preliminary installation (using the layout drawings) by either:
5.1. Floor bolting-down the equipment (using anchor fixings and chem-fix)
5.2. Providing a wall-mount solution (using unistrut).

6. If there is obsolete equipment in the place of the new equipment or in the general area Romac can provide a decommissioning and recycling solution:
6.1. Collection of obsolete equipment at the install site.
6.2. Certified data removal/destruction (where required by Data Protection Act).
6.3. Environmental disposal of equipment (issuing compliant certificates of destruction).
